Can You Help?
The CPLHS regularly receives enquiries from family and local historians asking for information about people and places within our peninsula.
If you are able to join the small group of members who have agreed to pool information and carry out a limited amount of work on these enquiries please e-mail a Committee member. They will ensure that a response is co-ordinated and publish the findings from these enquiries periodically. Thank you.

John Redhead was a surgeon in the Cartmel area for 44 years and died in 04/12/1852. There is a memorial in the Town Choir of Cartmel Priory erected by his children. A family relative is seeking any information about John Redhead and would appreciate our help to identify where he lived and practiced and anything that is known about medical provision in and around Cartmel in the mid 19th century.

Cartmel and Cark Pound. Both Cartmel (The Causeway) and Cark-in-Cartmel (at Rosthwaite) had an animal pound or pinfold as they are both shown on maps dated around 1850. They have both been dismantled and only some remains now exist. I am trying to find out when they disappeared and why. Can anyone help with this or have any old photographs or later maps that can help me please?

The Caddy family farmed at Greenbank Farm, Cartmel until Thomas Cartmel Caddy emigrated to Australia in 1877. His GGG Grandaughter who now lives in South Australia is seeking any information about the family, the farm and the family's involvement in Cartmel Church up until their emigration. Parish records feature the Caddy family but if anyone comes across any other references in their research could they let us know please.

William Geldert married Ann Fell in Cartmel church on 18th December 1613. They had 7 children all born in Cartmel including Edward who was born on 10th March 1617. We have received an enquiry from a descendant of Edward, who lives in the U.S.A., and who would like to know more about Edward's GG Grandfather who was Richard (Richus) Geldart married to Reta Ridehough in 1562. This is an optimistic request but if anyone has any knowledge of this family and where they lived in the Cartmel area could you contact me please.
